When is worship, and what will it be like? Worship is at 11:15am on Sunday mornings. This is family worship, and it happens year-round. For more detail on Sunday morning worship, see What to Expect on the Eastside menu. What about Sunday School? Sunday School occurs during Worship. Children begin in worship and go to their classes after Theme Time. Parents are encouraged to meet the (paid) teaching staff, to accompany their children to School or to drop into class at any time. There is also a colouring table in the sanctuary for kids who do not wish to attend classes. There is no formal nursery for toddlers and infants, but parents/caregivers are invited to sit in the library with fussy or busy toddlers, where sound from the worship service is available through a speaker. Is there a Choir? Eastside people are welcome to participate in an Adult Ensemble. Cindy Haynes directs the Adult Ensemble and newcomers are always welcome. Two-three times per year, Eastsiders also sing in a Joint Choir for Shared Living Spirit Centre services. How do I meet people or get involved? Come to worship and introduce yourself. Stay for coffee. Sign up for a Mid-Week Outreach project or ongoing study group. Fill in a Member Card/Envelope at the church and give it to the office. Stay for the Potluck on the last Sunday of the month. Make an appointment to see the minister or join us for coffee some morning at the church. Come to Women's Breakfast and meet a small group of women. Join workers for dry-walling, painting or general maintenance work. Come to Seniors' (60&) cards on Thursday mornings. Come to Youth Group. Join a House Group. Introduce yourself after worship. How do I receive communication? Contact the Church Office and talk to Diane (eastsideunitedATsasktel.net). Eastside communicates through an email system that comes through the Central Office (or through a designated leader). If you do not have access to email, you will receive a phone call about upcoming events. How do I become a Member? You are a member of Eastside if you have either been confirmed at Eastside United, had your membership transferred from another church, or been Baptized at Eastside as an adult. If you are a member of another United Church, and would like to become a member at Eastside, you can call the office and have your membership transferred to Eastside. If you are new to the United Church, you can take Confirmation classes or set up private conversations with our minister, Nobuko. After this, you can choose to be either baptized as an Adult, or confirmed, which makes you a member. What is expected of me if I join Eastside? There are no expectations of you if join Eastside. We invite you to find the level of involvement that is right for you. How do I give money to Eastside? Eastside encourages the use of PAR, a pre-authorized giving plan, in which your donation comes directly out of your bank account each month. This can be arranged through the Eastside Office. We also value weekly offerings, placed in the plate. Offering envelopes can be obtained through the office. How is Eastside doing financially? Eastside is doing fine financially. As a growing congregation in a wealthy part of Regina, we have the capacity to meet, and far exceed, our operating costs. We anticipate this situation as members become more generous with offerings, and more involved in Eastside's life. We do not have money in savings or trusts, however, so what we have in our bank account is the sum total of our assets. In 2007, we paid off a $26,000 debt and in 2008, we began a Capital Fund account for large repairs, building development and ongoing renovations. Please contact us with your other questions. |
