| The Larger Church |
|
Eastside, like other congregations in the United Church, exists as part of a larger conciliar structure: different courts in the church have different responsibilities. Congregations, for example, make decisions about baptisms, marriages, educational curricula and board structure (within limits). Presbytery (a regional body) makes decisions on other matters, as does Conference (a still larger body) and General Council (our national body). As with all other living organisms, the structure of the United Church shifts and responds to societal patterns, demographic changes and emerging theologies. For more information, talk to our minister, Nobuko, our Minister Emeritus, Ken Powers, or our Presbytery representatives, Delise Fathers & Leif Freisach.
