Eastside United has a happy, healthy Board that directs the congregation. Elected at each Annual Meeting, the Board consists of 8-10 members who serve 2-year (renewable) terms. In January 2005, Eastside moved to a system of having liaisons on the Board rather than Committee Chairs. This means that every board member acts as a liaison with a committee rather than leading it themselves. Committee heads are always welcome at Board meetings and the Boards attempts to hear from each committee and adhoc committee at least once a year, at a Board meeting.

Below are some initiatives undertaken by the Board from 2005-11:

* Studied homophobia, heterosexism and same-sex marriage.

* Created and adopted Mission and Values statements.

* Developed an inclusive marriage policy.

* Developed a Baptismal Policy

* Developed a Confirmation Policy

* Studied Progressive Christianity and "Emerging Christianity."

* Hired three Sunday School teachers.

* Paid off a $26,000 debt.

* Began a Capital Fund for building improvement and maintenance.

* Began developing a Green Plan.

* Completed the Affirming Ministries process.

* Developed a Conflict Resolution Policy with our Living Spirit Centre partners.

* Created a Diversity Value and circulated it through Listening Circles for discussion purposes.
